Details:
The Location: The Pine Creek Trail is 65.5 miles long. We will not be biking the whole thing. Our hotel is in the middle of the trail’s length. The trail runs along the bottom of Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the PA Grand Canyon. The surface is finely crushed stone.
The Hotel: Cedar Run Inn is a quaint, old hotel along the trail with a beautiful pond and setting. Highly rated for cleanliness and great meals. All rooms have a sink and toilet. Showers are shared down the hall. Several rooms have at least 2 twin beds if you wish to share a room.
The Price: Your balance will be due at check-out. The hotel will only accept cash or checks. Sorry no credit cards. The price is per person and does not change if you are sharing a room.
Food: Breakfasts and dinners are provided by the hotel and are included in the price. There are not places to purchase food or water on the trail. Plan to carry the water you need and refill at the hotel in the mornings. Bring the food you will need for lunches and snacks.
Getting There: According to Google Maps, it will take about 3.5 hours to get there. Carpooling will be discussed among those attending.
Reserving Your Spot: A deposit of $100.00 is needed to secure a room. Contact Sarah Harmon to reserve your room. We need to let the hotel know by July 1st exactly how many rooms we need. After this date, if you decide to go you will need to make your own arrangements. There are very few hotels and restaurants in the area.
Cancelations: If you must cancel a full refund is given if cancelled 7 days before our event.
June Destination Ride on the C&O
The June Social Ride will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026.
Ride manager: Tim Gotwald - 717 491 0611 - tim@gotwald.org
Meeting Time: 9:30 am
C&O Canal Parking Lot: 16522-16500 Canal Rd, Sharpsburg, MD 21782
GPS Coordinates: 39.434023, -77.794852
The route will be C&O Canal Towpath from Shepherdstown north to the Slackwater boat ramp or McMahon Mill picnic area. This will be an “out-and-back” ride entirely on the towpath. Total distance - about 26 miles or “out and back” as you choose.
The trail is in good condition, packed fine gravel, no hills, almost entirely tree tunnel. (There has been some damage from high water at a few spots, but trail is passable.) Options for lunch would be: ride over to Shepherdstown on return.
The trail is beautiful. Lots of wildlife and wildflowers. Views of the Potomac all the way. Because of the damage from high water, we would not recommend high pressure road tires.
Kids Bike Rodeo
A Kids' Bike Rodeo is a thrilling and engaging event designed to introduce children to the joys of cycling in a safe, controlled environment. It's a day filled with excitement, laughter, and the spirit of adventure, where kids of all ages gather to test their biking skills through various obstacle courses and fun challenges. The rodeo typically includes activities such as slalom courses, slow races, and balance beams, all aimed at improving bike handling and safety skills. Each activity is supervised by experienced volunteers who ensure that every participant is wearing the necessary safety gear, such as helmets and knee pads, making it a worry-free day for parents and a blast for the kids.
